Since 1986 Gary Bollinger has completed hundreds of writing, editing, design, and consulting assignments for companies and non-profit organizations, with an emphasis on technology and healthcare. Projects have included business plans, proposals and reports, website organization and SEO writing, executive summaries, product and corporate brochures, and advertising.
Gary has focused on freelance work since 2000. Previously he served as marketing communications manager for Software.com, Inc., a firm founded in 1995 that developed and marketed e-mail server software for Internet service providers throughout the world, particularly large telecommunications companies including AT&T, GTE/Verizon, Telecom Italia, and Ameritech. Software.com later merged with Phone.com to form Openwave Systems (NASDAQ: OPWV).
At Software.com Gary was directly responsible for a wide range of marketing communications initiatives, including the company’s website, corporate identity system, trade show planning and administration, product brochures, packaging, technical papers, PowerPoint presentations, Internet and trade journal advertising, direct mail appeals, and miscellaneous materials for a worldwide sales force.
During Gary's tenure at Software.com the firm grew from a six-person start-up venture with $4.7 million in sales revenues to a company with over 225 employees, $30 million in annual sales, and a $90 million initial public offering on NASDAQ.
Prior to his work at Software.com, Gary served for eight years as creative director and managing partner of Bollinger, Peters & Brush, a firm that provided marketing, advertising, and design services to many of Santa Barbara’s largest companies and non-profit organizations. He was responsible for management of the design staff, budgeting, copywriting, and creative direction/management of all client projects, including corporate identity systems, annual reports, packaging, and catalogs.Gary earned a B.A. in English from Cornell University.
